What you need to be Prepared!

Today I am writing about things you need for most survival situations. Food and Water are of course two of the main items needed to live but beyond that you should have shelter and warmth.

Sleeping Bags are great if space is not an issue, if space is an issue, then a solar blanket or solar sleeping bag are a great substitute and work extremely well.

Backpacks are a must for a "bug out bag". These are a kit that should have all your necessary items already included and are ready to grab and go an emergency situation.

Radio's are great to have with your gear so you can keep up to date on the news and emergency announcements. I highly recommend a crank or dynamo style radio that includes a cell phone charger and flashlight. This way you have multiple tools in one device and they don't need batteries!

Items you should have in your survival kit or bug out bag (B.O.B.) are a compass, flint fire starter, matches, candle, first aid kit, water storage device (preferably with filtration), flashlight, radio, food and water, solar blanket, small tent (tube tents are ideal since they are lightweight), pocket multi-tool, folding stove, medications, change of clothes and comfortable shoes. This is a basic list and I will expand on other items in the near future. If you have at least these items in a pack, you will have a decent pack ready for an emergency.

Another reason to prepare for an emergency

The other day, a person responded to a post in a forum regarding emergency preparedness kits. He said "I don't need a disaster preparedness kit, when the time comes, I will just go to wally world (Wal-Mart) and fire off a couple of rounds, clear out the store and take what I need". I was astonished at his response! The first thing that came to mind was his wife and two daughters. He plans on abandoning his family to go put himself in harms way to steal what he needs instead of being a good man and preparing for a disaster.

I am personally prepared and will stay home to protect my family and live on the food and water that I have set aside in case of an emergency. Anyone who loots for what they need after a disaster occurs will not have a free reign of the city. There are hundreds of thousands of people in the city that most likely have the same mindset as this thief and they will most likely be doing the same, so the chances of survival during looting are not very good, and furthermore, who will be at home to protect his wife and children? What if he does not make it back? Does he expect for his wife to go out and try to loot and leave her daughters behind? What if she doesn't make it either? Are the two little girls supposed to know how to find food and water for themselves? And defend themselves? Someone didn't think this through very well or doesn't care enough to prepare for the future. I find this very disheartening, especially when the average american spends over $500.00 each month for car, health, and home insurance.

Preparedness Supplies only cost about 10 cents a day over 5 years to have food and water set aside for tough times, when they come. Any day there could be an earthquake, fire, severe weather, power outages, and more! How do you choose to care for your family? I hope you choose the affordable path of being prepared.

Staying Alive

What is Survival? Not only is it about being prepared, but also the knowledge and confidence that allows you to stay alive in an emergency situation. The more you know about how to survive, the better chance you have of surviving in a disaster. Whether you are lost on a hiking trip, an earthquake devastates your home, or some other unforeseen event, you need to be prepared to keep your family alive! Over the next few months, I will be discussing different techniques in different situations such as stranded on the road when your car breaks down, earthquake and natural disasters, cold weather, loss of public utilities, terrorism and many more.

Hello America and Happy Friday!

If you have not yet registered at my emergency preparedness supplies website www.APlusSurvival.com, now is the time! I am giving away three FREE emergency kits so come check out the site, register and give me your feedback if you would like. If you have any questions on what items you may need for your disaster kit, I would be happy to help! Remember, the top four items needed for your emergency supplies are Water (you can only live a few days without it), Food (Again, you only have about 2 weeks if you run out), Shelter (Sun and rain protection), and Warmth (depending on where you live, Hypothermia can kill you quickly, and being cold is an awful feeling).

Be Prepared America! You never know when the next Earthquake, Flood, Tornado, Hurricane, Fire, Tsunami, or other threat may strike! Being prepared only costs pennies per day compared to health insurance, car insurance, home insurance, life insurance and so on. Show your family how much you care about their safety and their lives! Make your emergency plan now and spend time with your family to understand it and practice it. Contact your neighbors and have a neighborhood disaster plan also, surviving is always easier when you have people you can trust and to help each other in times of emergency.

Have a great and safe weekend!
